I will be running the Chicago Marathon on October 13, 2019 in support of Dare2Tri. If you know me well, you are probably saying to yourself 'Claffy isn't a runner, what is he thinking?!'

Our Race2Raise team will be training together and working closely to achieve our fundraising goal of $30,000. I've been involved with Dare2Tri through one of my closest friends, Mary Kate Callahan, who is pictured on this page.

Mary Kate was paralyzed when she was 6 months old from a disease called transverse myelitis and she has lived her entire life in a wheelchair. We became immediate friends in middle school and have continued the relationship over the past 15+ years. Growing up, she participated in all of the same sports that her friends did and she found a love for swimming. While she was on Fenwick's swim team, she became increasingly involved in the sport of Paratriathlon. Mary Kate is an inspiration to every person that has the honor of knowing her and she always encourages me to be my best. At the young age of 24, she has accomplished more than most people have the opportunity to do in a lifetime. While she will always remain humble about her accomplishments, Mary Kate is consistently setting records and breaking down barriers.

Dare2tri is an Illinois-based 501(c)3 non-for-profit organization with the mission to positively impact the lives of athletes with physical disabilities and visual impairments by developing their skills in paratriathlon. Dare2tri empowers individuals with disabilities and gives them the opportunity to be physically active, engaged with their community, and helps them set and reach goals. Dare2tri changes lives by boosting individuals’ self-esteem, confidence, and self-worth.

Since 2011, Dare2tri has worked with athletes of all ability levels from beginner to elite by serving youth, adults, and injured service members who have a physical disability such as amputation, spinal cord injury, stroke, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, and those with visual impairments and blindness.
