Running saved my life. I started running in 2015 when I was going through a particularly bad divorce, and found out my mom had stage four cancer and only months to live at the same time. My training was the only thing I could control in a time where everything seemed to be spinning out of control. Having never run before, there were times it was incredibly hard to not quit. However, I was training for my first 5K in Boston in the dead of winter, and sharing an indoor track at the Y with many athletes with various disabilities I could not even comprehend having to overcome, made it impossible to give up. The inspiration these athletes gave me pushed me then and still does to this day. Watching the Boston Marathon after the bombings, the first year that several of the runners that had lost limbs had come back, stronger and more determined than ever, was the most amazing thing I have witnessed to date. I swore to myself that I, too, would one day run Boston. That step starts with my first marathon this year, when I run Chicago. What more fitting and appropriate way to do so than to do it while raising money to help the very parathletes that have inspired me along my entire running journey this last three years? Please help me help them accomplish their dreams, and discover their strength.
